Utilising the internet to improve the image of Indian Lawyers

I have recently authored an article on the stereotypes of lawyers in Bollywood movies and the effects of them on flesh and blood lawyers. The article is presently under the editorial review of the Journal of Indian Law and Society run by the National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. I have made an argument to utilize the internet to improve information flows from Indian lawyers to create a better stereotype. Readers may download the draft of the paper embedded below for the sake of comments and criticism. I would also be interested in knowing what other forms of information flows, lawyers can further employ to improve the fall in their image.

While the image of Indian lawyers as portrayed by Bollywood is certainly not impressive, it should be pointed out that the image of lawyers in the Indian television media is certainly improving. A classic example is that of the the Television series aired by SONY titled “Adaalat”. The story revolves around an intelligent and inquisitive criminal lawyer K. D. Pathak who constantly brings the real culprits to justice and always manages to save the innocent who have invariably been falsely accused of the crime. (which coincidently, is always murder and yes, he has been modeled on the lines of Perry Mason)

While certain aspects of the series are certainly exaggerated ( “KD” has never lost a case and the prosecution lawyer, always a female, might it be added, is always screaming her head off at the judge about how she cant possibility be wrong and that the case is sealed and also for some reason, the court is never too crowded and is always spotlessly clean), what is prevalent throughout the show is the benevolence and truthful heart of the lawyer and his determination to persue justice.

Do watch it sometime, you might get a few laughs out of it, if nothing else. :)
